Training Book Review // Gimme Kraft

Do you enjoy climbing but want to develop further skills and strength but don’t really know where to start? Gimme Kraft by Patrick Matros, Ludwig “Dicki” Korb and Hannes Huch is a comprehensive guide to getting fitter and stronger for all types of climbing.

“How do I get stronger?… train most efficiently?…what exercises make the most sense?” are questions set out in the introduction. These questions are readily answered in a compact, enjoyable and motivating training manual.

Training course // Mindfulness 8-week programme

What is the training? This is an 8 week mindfulness training programme specifically designed for climbers (although non-climbers welcome!). It follows a mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) and mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) hybrid.   But what IS mindfulness? Mindfulness is a simple form of meditation that helps us develop...

Life-Climb Balance For The Single Parent

Work-climb-life balance can be tricky, especially if you have children or a demanding job.

Whether your work is paid or voluntary (and in this I include caring and housekeeping roles), after long hours committed to this role it can feel hard to find the time to get to the wall let alone the energy to do so.

WCS 2016 // Review // The Talks!

It’s hard to imagine the team at Women’s Climbing Symposium could improve their events from the previous years but we think they did just that. WCS 2016 saw 400 women from all over the country (and around the world too!) gather together to hear motivating and informative talks, learn some invaluable skills in workshops and network with like-minded super psyched people.

As always it was a star studded event with headline speakers Lisa Rands, Jo Pavey and WCS’s very own Shauna Coxsey, not to mention the plethora of high end climbing crushers like Leah Crane, Mina Leslie Wyjastyk and Suz Dudikn, to name but a few! This year there was theme of goals and so it was great that some of the speakers included women that pushed the boundaries of societal expectations and choose their own paths in life, among them outdoor leader Libby peter, nutritionist Rebecca Dent and entrepreneur Rachael Briggs.

Our very own Zoe gives us a taste of what some of the talks were like…

Bosigran, Cornwall // Outdoor Climbing Venue // Review

The West Penwith area in Cornwall is full of solid (mostly!) granite climbing and outstanding scenery. This place is not only packed with top class rock but also beautiful beaches and moorland coastline, making it accessible for families as well as groups of friends and couples. Bosigran has a great reputation for long low and mid-grade climbing and we were not disappointed….

Perfect for…

Classic multi-pitch routes and incredible views. Sunny afternoon climbing- The main cliff gets the afternoon sun and dries quickly after rain. It is also useful for viewing Commando ridge (aka Bosigran ridge) which is opposite the main cliff.

What I like the most…

FrictionLabs Chalk // Review

FrictionLabs is a US based climbing chalk company currently boasting to have manufactured the highest purity of magnesium carbonate chalk on the market. “Why is this so great?!”I hear you ask. Well, chalk is a combination of magnesium carbonate and calcium carbonate. The former traps moisture, leaving surfaces dry and the latter attaches water to the outside of the molecule, leaving surfaces moist. It is claimed by the team at FrictionLabs that this makes their chalk last longer, safer to inhale and is less likely to dry out the skin.

We put this fancy new climbing chalk to the test…….

La Sportiva Katana Velcro Rock Shoe // Review

Love…

Comfort and feel. They are a comfort/performance hybrid so edging is really precise but could also wear on long multi-pitch routes. The blue and green show looks great too!

Would like to see…..

Them change the women’s fit from pink to something else! Better durability in the toe
