Intro to Trad Climbing

30 July @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm BST

Outline

A day of instructed climbing for those wanting to learn more about trad climbing. You’ll have a full day of climbing in north Wales in a small and friendly women-only group with a female instructor.

The Details

Times: Meet 10am, Finish 5pm

Venue: Llanberis or Betws Y Coed

Where we will climb: This will depend on weather, conditions and visitor numbers in the local area. The venue will have easy access, with a walk-in of less than 30 minutes in most circumstances.

Group size: There will be 4 people in this group with one instructor.

On the Day

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and develop trad climbing knowledge to help you progress with your outdoor trad climbing. This is not a ‘learn to lead’ course and you will not participate in leading on this course. You will get to know about gear and equipment and how to place it. If you know all about gear and placements and you’re ready for the sharp end, ┬áthen consider one of our Learn to Lead courses.

Safety

We take your health, safety and wellbeing very seriously. We hold all of our partners to high standards, and expect them to follow industry standards or better when they are running courses for our members and community. We have produced a comprehensive risk assessment, and we review the risk assessments of our partners prior to the course, to ensure they meet our exacting standards.

Prior to attending, all attendees will be asked to complete an online form to agree to following the Womenclimb COVID-19 Commitment. Any attendee who feels they cannot follow the simple actions in the Womenclimb COVID-19 Commitment will not be able to join our events or meetups.

FAQ's

Can I bring my dog to the meetup?

Please read our info about dogs at meetups if you are considering bringing a dog to a Womenclimb meetup or event.

I’ve never climbed before, is this for me?

Yes it is! This course is for anyone who wants to try outdoor climbing, or who has climbed outdoors before and wants to boost their confidence.

Can you hire out kit?

Usually we are able to hire kit, but due to COVID-19, we are not currently hiring kit, due to the logistics. Places like Decathlon and Rock & Run sometimes have good deals for entry-level climbing equipment.

Will the session run if there are only 2 or 3 people signed up?

We aim to make our sessions as affordable as we can. To do this, our sessions can currently only run if all places on the course are taken, so we reserve the right to cancel or postpone sessions that aren’t fully booked. We will let you know if this happens.

Who is the host / instructor?

This day is being coached by Sam Leary and Cath Wilson at Leading Edge. If you don’t know them already, these are highly qualified and experienced instructors who have worked with Womenclimb on many events and meetups. You can find out more on their website: Leading Edge Mountaineering
