It’s time for Womenclimb (and you) to start walking again. We are reintroducing meetups, starting with a series of nationwide unguided walks, where people can get to know each other in a socially distanced way, before attending our climbing meetups in the coming weeks. Our meetups will be in different areas of the country, with groups of 6 people as a maximum in any one area, at any one meet.

Walking Meetup: Lake District
11 July 2020 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm BSTFree
Who's ready to go walking?
How will it work?
You will be in a group with 5 other people. You and the other 5 people in your group will arrive at the arrange meeting point and be ready to walk at 10am. You should come with some idea of a route you would like to walk, as these are NOT guided walks. Arrive at the meetup prepared with everything you need to walk with peers for a period of 4-5 hours or around 8-12 miles, and be prepared to make your way back to your car/ mode of transport independently if you are unable to complete the walk. Your group will jointly agree a walk route, taking into consideration the experience and skills of the least experienced walker.
Where is it?
For this walk, we have not decided a confirmed location, but this may be around the Duddon Valley. This will be confirmed closer to the time, and for this meetup we may consult the group to gain an idea of preferences.
What will I need?
You will need everything for a day out in the hills, including map, compass, warm clothing, suntan lotion, bug spray, water, food etc. If you are in doubt, remember that there will be no sharing of kit on these meetups, so you must bring everything you need for yourself. More information will be shared with you about this in advance via email, once you have signed up.
Will I be safe?
This is the million dollar question and if we had a definitive answer we would be very rich! In advance of the meetup, we will give you the latest information, our own guidance and information, including access to our risk assessments. You must make your own informed choice about how comfortable you are attending meetups. We will always encourage the highest levels of hygiene and following social distancing rules. Of course, we cannot guarantee this, but we know from our previous meetups that our members are some of the most considerate, thoughtful and supportive people we know. We feel very confident that you and they and we will all listen to each other and appreciate different perspectives and needs.
In addition, walking meetups have the benefit of no sharing of gear or equipment. We can be entirely self-contained, and we can distance ourselves from others in most circumstances.
In summary, you must make your own choice, knowing that there may still be some element of risk.
This is the basis of your attendance at Womenclimb meetups.
Sign me up....
These meetups are for Womenclimb members only. You must first sign up for Womenclimb Membership, then get your ticket for the meetup. Tickets will be on sale at 7pm on Wednesday 17th June 2020.
Womenclimb members all agree to a set of principles, including being responsible for our own actions and communicating effectively with the people we climb and walk with.
Your membership contribution helps to keep Womenclimb running. At the moment, it is run entirely by volunteers.
How we will contact you
We will contact you by email when you have signed up. Put these email addresses into your email contact list now, so that you receive the information you need prior to attending: email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org.
You will receive an email from us a week before the meetup confirming what you should bring with you, please check your spam/junk folder before contacting us. If you’ve check spam and haven’t received it, email us at email@example.com.
Who is the host / instructor?
This is an uninstructed meetup, where attendees are responsible for their own wellbeing. You will be given guidance, information and Womenclimb risk assessments, to help you decided whether you are happy to attend the meetup. Please do everything you can to let us know at least 5 days in advance if you wish to drop out, as we anticipate these meetups being in high demand. If you take a place and don’t use it, someone else will miss out, so you must let us know if you plan to not attend. We understand that sometimes things happen outside of our control, which is why we are administering a Waiting List Ticket option for the first time ever. If you do have to drop out, we can pass your ticket onto the next in line. Thank you for helping us to make this process work.
