How do you feel about failure & making mistakes?

At any time during the course, you can choose to skip exercises that you feel won’t be beneficial for you. At the start of the course you completed a form, which outlines some places you can get additional support.  There’s more information about that here, if you need it.

Exercise:  Reflect on Failure // Duration: 10mins

This exercise is about understanding how we deal with failure, in our bodies and our minds.

Take some time to reflect on how you deal with making mistakes and failure, in general life.  Next think about others.  How do others around you deal with making mistakes and having failures?  First write yourself some notes, if you need to, then use the comments section below to discuss the following:

  • How does the body feel when experiencing failure or making mistakes?
  • What can be the physiological responses to making mistakes and failing?
  • What are the emotions associated with failure?
  • What do people do when they fail – how do they respond?
  • How do you feel about how you deal with failure and mistakes?
  • What sorts of things happen to the mind when people experience failure?

Your responses may be personal or observations of others.  You do not have to comment or discuss if you don’t feel comfortable to do so, in this task, or any task on this training.  You can discuss just one point, that is most relevant to you, or you can discuss all of the points above. Your perspectives are really important in helping others and clarifying your own ideas.
