When discussing coaching there is often a distinction made between formal and informal. There are many ways in which this is defined in different contexts, but in relation to sport and specifically climbing you may find the following characteristics helpful.
Although not planned, focused or necessarily received from an expert, informal coaching can be extremely beneficial, whilst formalising this process provides the potential to focus on areas of development, maintain consistency and develop efficiently using proven coaching techniques.
