My favourite piece of gear has to be my chalk bag. It is a fluffy zebra pattern and is always there for me when I need it, especially in some pretty tight spaces!

Hey! Emily from Womenclimb here. My favourite piece(s) of gear are my old, heavy hexes. I love them. They are my trusty and reliable anchors when I need a confidence boost.

Let’s get this competition rolling. What’s your favourite gear?

My favorite piece of gear is my petzl reverso 4 which my husband bring me from Scotland! It is nice memory for him and it helps us to climb mountains 😉 and I like to absail with it 😉

As I mainly boulder kit is limited, I own a rack with some lovely cams and you’ve got to love a sling, so versatile, but my favourite bit of kit us a good pair of well fitting shoes that turn tiny little pebbles into secure stances, crimpy holds into ledges and make smearing a dream. I always struggled to trust my feet but being able to trust your shoes takes away a step towards this, and that feeling of smearing on seemingly nothing to make the crux move makes it priceless.

My favourite gear are my DMM half ropes. One is blue, one is orange and when they come out the gear cupboard it means we are hitting some trad routes and will probably have an awesome day! Two lots of 60m of happiness and adventure, letting me explore and discover new places and routes.

Fav bit of gear? Got to be my Paramo jacket. It’s bomb proof. Great for Scottish Winter and Lake District apocolypse weather.

My favourite piece of kit is the chalk bag. I have sweaty palms and the chalk is indispensable. Also, as I wanted a truly unique chalk bag, I decided to buy my own fabric and made my own chalk bag from scratch. It took me 5 hours on a sewing machine but was well worth the effort – looks good and does the job 🙂 I love it more than anything else!

My favorite bit of climbing gear are my Scarpa shoes which are my first pair of climbing shoes and so bright green that they dye my feet every time I wear them!

My fave piece of kit is a customised Organic Climbing boulder pad. It was a wedding gift and has mine and the hubby’s initials on it. Otherwise its a chalk bag I won in my first, and only, competiton! But saying that, the real favourite is the climbing buddies. It is the people that make it!

My favourite bit of kit has to be my paramo smock top. I got it second hand, it’s massive on me as it’s a mans fit but that means I can get it on over loads of layers and it keeps me dry and warm. As a hoodie style smock it’s easy to get on when roped up and belaying. Best of all it has a huge pocket across the front which fits loads of things in which means I fill it with snacks so it’s like a horse nose bag!

My favorite piece of climbing kit are my carabineers ! They colorful and so incredibly versatile, not only for climbing but right now I am using them to attach my tent and sleeping bag to the back of my backpack as I travel through South America and my tin cup/speaker to a string loop so I can listen to music in the shower !

Am I allowed to call my belay jacket my favorite piece of climbing kit?!

I have really poor circulation, so hanging around at the crag or on a ledge in the UK ~ even in summer~ can be pretty uncomfortable and doesn’t exactly help me get my psych up for the next climb.

Having my massive Alpkit down jacket with me wherever I go is a must! It even has to nice double zip so that I can throw the jacket over everything else and un-zip it a little bit from the bottom meaning that I can belay safely and be warm.

I love my Rab bobble hat that came in my WCS 2016 goodie bag. I haven’t owned a bobble hat in over 30 years, especially not one with an orange bobble so bright you can use me as a beacon in fog. It’s flattering (yes really, you haven’t seen my other hats), warm but not overly hot and so comfortable I forget I am wearing it. And it’s teal, which is my favourite colour ever!

Definitely my Scarpa climbing shoes: “Give a girl the right pair of shoes and she can conquer the world”. Climbing has given me so much confidence and I’ve met lots of amazing people doing it. Thanks, trusty Scarpas!

My favourite piece of climbing gear is my approach shoes – they’re what get me to the crag!

I’m a newbie to climbing and love my scarpa shoes! They’re the first pair I’ve bought and were still learning to trust each other but my climbing has improved hugely already 🙂

Ahh I can’t choose my favourite bit of gear… it’s usually my newest one… in which case it’s my shiny new DMM sport quickdraws for my hols in April!

  • Louise
    December 10, 2016 at 9:10 am

My favourite piece of gear is my mammut quickdraws! They’re green so I can easily tell they’re mine and they’re so durable. The best part about them is the indicator technology where you see red when the webbing is coming apart and it’s time to retire them.

My favorite equipment is certainly my Andrea Boldrini climbing shoes. I bought them in Paris last year and they are so cool and makes me confident about my feet! For me, these are the best climbing shoes ever !?

It was love at first sight for with my Petzl quickdraws! The romance continues as they look even better against rock, feel great to fondle and have done wonders for my confidence. 🙂

My favourite bit of gear? My 5.10 siren rock shoes – so comfortable that when i wore one pair out iI bought exactly the same model again.

    December 10, 2016 at 5:38 pm

My Scarpa VS shoes – first downturned shoes I bought, and that I’d bought specifically to do a boulder problem I’d initially thought would be too ‘burly’ for me. It worked, I climbed the problem and felt like anything was possible!

Has to undoubtedly be my DMM Joe Browns 50th anniversary golden torque nut, purely due to the utter fun me and my climbing partner had hunting them down in the peaks!

  • Stacey
    December 12, 2016 at 8:19 pm

My favourite piece of climbing gear is my climbing partner (if she’ll allow me to call her gear!) She truly builds my confidence, encourages and supports me on and off the climbing wall. We’re a great team. I’d like to think she’d say the same!

  • Kasia
    December 12, 2016 at 11:32 pm

My favourite piece of climbing gear are my climbing shoes. At some point I had more pair of climbing boots than normal shoes. I like to have variations and pick right shoes for the place. Generally i prefer softer one but only because I mainly climb on sandstone and grit. But good to have as well a pair of stiffer with good edge.

My favourite bit of kit is my scapa furia climbing shoes- which took a while to break in but are now super comfy but stick to any hold or smear.

  • Bella
    December 13, 2016 at 12:15 pm

My favourite piece of gear is my La Sportiva Pythons – even if they’ve been dying my feet orange since I got them back in May! They’ve got me up quite a few routes that I couldn’t have dreamed of doing in my old shoes, and drastically improved my footwork and my general confidence in my feet on small holds and volumes!

My favourite piece of gear is my alpine rucksack – it’s slightly shredded after a traverse of the beautiful ridge (with very sharp rock!) of Trugberg in Switzerland last year, but it has survived many mini adventures brilliantly and is lightweight yet strong, comfy and trusty!
