Wales Climbing Weekend – Spring 2013
April saw the second weekend climbing trip for Manchester Climbing Centre’s Women’s Club. A group of 14 women descended upon the Karabiner Mountaineering Club (KMC) club hut near to Llanberis for a weekend of instructed climbing. We organised both a Learn to Lead course and an Introduction to Outdoors Course, to cater for people at all levels.
Lots to Learn…
As you may have gathered, the weather this spring has been somewhat changeable. What this meant was that the groups’ plans adapted to the weather. The Introduction to Outdoors group went with Joe Torr and Jon Allsopp into the slate quarries, where the rock dries quickly in the wind, to test their mettle in Australia and beyond, whilst MIA qualified instructor Nate McMullan took the Learn to Lead group over to Tremadog, where they enjoyed glorious sunshine, unlike the group who decided to go to Llanberis Pass and were rained off a slippery Vdiff multi pitch route!
Sunday saw a lazy start, after a late night with Mojitos, and the realisation that no outdoor routes were going to happen. A change of plan meant that we all went to The Beacon Climbing Centre in Caernarfon instead. Everyone enjoyed some brilliant tuition from the instructors to improve their indoors to outdoor climbing skills.
All in all the weekend was a great success, thanks to the great women and fantastic instructors. The Womenclimb team hopes to be able to organise another weekend in conjunction with Manchester Climbing Centre in September 2013, so watch this space or sign up for the newsletter.
