Winter Climbing Grades
Winter Climbing has its own grading system. The Scottish System is different to the system used in continental Europe. Rather than expanding on this here, I refer you to the Mountaindays website, which has a good clear explanation of Scottish Winter Climbing Grades and Alpine Grading.
It is worth noting that in the UK Grade boundaries can be blurred. Many routes have Grade I approach slopes, Grade II Gullies on the immediate approach, a Grade IV route up a buttress, with a 20m ice pitch to finish!
If you have any questions about grades, let us know. If we don’t know the answer, we will probably know someone who does…
